The escape was built in the 1800s as a mountain residence before opening in 1934 to An Óige venue for hillwalkers and children. Bought by the current owner in 2016, it has been extensively renovated and landscaped. The escape hosts many weddings, gatherings and corporate events as well as being open for garden cabin bookings.

Pocket sprung and memory foam mattresses nurture your perfect night’s sleep.
Super King
Enjoy your best nights sleep. Available as a twin or super king, each ensuite boutique bedroom has been designed with great care and attention to detail. All furniture has been designed by the proprietor and made by craftspeople using locally sourced Irish timber. Treat yourself to a rainfall shower sourced directly from mountain spring water. Sleep in luxurious comfort with duvets filled with the finest duck feather and down and covered with 100% cotton.
Twin & Mezzanine
Our deluxe garden cabins are perfect for your family and friends. Sleeping four in pure comfort two single beds and 2 mezzanines, they are crafted by the owners aged spalted beech. Each of the ensuite cabins has cotton linen with individual wool curtains and reading lights. All rooms are ensuite with Italian ceramic tiles, rain head showers, and spalted beech shelving. Towells and fluffy robes make your stay extra special.

Wow! Where do I even begin. We recently had our wedding at the Wicklow Escape and Kate, Derek, and Oran were absolutely wonderful. From the first video call to the day of the wedding they went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure not only the grooms were taken care of but also our friends and family. I would like to think we’ve made friends for life with the staff. I just can’t even begin to thank them enough for how amazing they made our special day. I lead a Yoga and Pilates retreat in the Wicklow Escape in March 2026. The place is really lovely, with cozy rooms, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, peace and quiet. We had delicious meals in the beautiful log cabin. The yoga room was graced by a fireplace and hanging candles that made it quite magical. The surroundings are stunning, you would think you are in the Lord of the Rings! Kate and Derek treated us very well and helped us with every query we had. They were kind and very friendly to everyone. The participants really enjoyed their stay. Some booked the hot tub and had lots of fun. I also really appreciated having a sink in my room. A really beautiful place.
I unfortunately didn't have a great experience at this venue. The night before my wedding, some of my guests were locked out of their room with no clothes (they were using the hot tub) as the door to the room had locked and would not reopen.One of the guests also had medication locked inside which he needed to take.I had already gone to bed around midnight as I had an early morning ahead of me. At some point in the middle of the night I woke up to noise in the cottage where I was staying. When I came out I saw staff setting up several metal beds in the main room.This was the same room where I was meant to be getting ready at 7am with my hair and makeup artists, and where the photographer and videographer were arriving that morning. I asked them not to set up beds there because there would be nowhere for me to get ready, but they kept continuing, saying they have no where else to put them. Eventually, I found another place they could set them up, which they then used.At that point I was already extremely stressed and exhausted. It was the night before my wedding and instead of staff managing the situation, I felt like I was the one trying to solve it.One of the guests ended up staying awake all night waiting for the locksmith to arrive so they could access their room again.The following morning, about half an hour before my vows, while I was already anxious and nervous about being so close to getting married, Nadia came to speak with me. Instead of apologising for what had happened the night before, she raised concerns about how my guests were supposedly being aggressive with staff over the incident.I found this very surprising because I had been present during the interactions the night before and that was not my experience at all. If anything, members of my family were trying to support the staff. My aunt kept hugging one of the staff members, telling her not to worry about it.It was actually my makeup artist who later pointed out that at no point during that conversation did Nadia apologise to me for the situation.There were also a number of other issues throughout the stay. Multiple guests mentioned difficulty getting basic things from staff. I also had this experience, having to ask several times for something, sometimes not receiving it at all, or if I did, hours later.Several guests, including my husband had also commented to me afterwards that they had seen staff drinking during the event, which was concerning.The food was another disappointment and many guests mentioned to me afterwards that they were unhappy with it.I will say one positive thing: Nadia did notice an issue with my wedding cake where the flowers had not been added as planned, and she brought it to my attention so it could be fixed before the reception. I did appreciate that.However overall the experience was extremely stressful, especially given that this was meant to be the night before and morning of my wedding.Edit: I'm honestly not surprised by the response from the venue given the experience we had. Firstly, I am Irish, so I'm not sure what you mean by cultural differences? I know you have a reputation and will spin this in a way to maintain it. The only reason I am writing this comment is in the hope that you will learn and improve based on my feedback, and not give another bride the same nightmare I had. It was meant to be a joyous weekend, and I still, years later have comments from guests about what a disaster the venue was.
We recently had business meetings and team-building at The Wicklow Escape. Our group of 12 stayed for 2 days and 1 night, and it was an unforgettable experience.From the very beginning, Kate took exceptional care of our booking and looked after us throughout our stay. She coordinated everything seamlessly, from our accommodation and meeting spaces to the catering. She also helped us arrange some fantastic team-building activities, including a lovely morning woodland walk, a meditation relaxation session, and an exciting Bushcraft Survival Skills Session.The venue itself is a unique, rustic countryside retreat set amidst a stunning landscape. The bedrooms were very comfortable, and the hot, powerful showers were a great way to unwind after a long day.Now, let's talk about the food – it was absolutely FANTASTIC! Every meal was a five-star experience, with clean plates all around at every sitting!I wholeheartedly recommend The Wicklow Escape to any company looking for a truly unique and memorable experience. It offers a refreshing change from mainstream hotels, providing an excellent environment for focus and collaboration while feeling like a step away from the corporate grind.Thank you, Kate and the entire team, for making our stay great.
Family wedding at the being of December. Location was magical. Hidden away, no traffic noise or anything. The bedrooms, ceremony tent, dining hall, all beautifully decorated. Food was phenomenal and plenty of it. Bar was full stocked. Kate, Derek, Alana are a credit to the business. Helpful, king and nothing was ever too much. Ceremony was pushed forward 1 hour due to a family emergency and there was no stress. Everything was seamless. I would highly recommend for small intimate weddings. There was also an outdoor fire heated hot tub. Absolutely incredible!
We couldn’t be happier with our stay. We spent three incredible days at this venue for our wedding, and from start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The venue is in a beautiful location, nestled beside the Sugarloaf, with the woods being a part of the venue. Every single request we made was handled promptly and with care — the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect.Kate is a true standout and an incredible asset to Wicklow Escape. Any question we had, she was always there with an answer, guidance, and genuine care. Her knowledge, professionalism, and kindness made a huge difference and helped make our event as perfect as it was.Even with unpredictable weather, it had absolutely no impact on the weekend. The venue itself is stunning and well-prepared for anything, making the entire experience seamless and stress-free. The food was another highlight — absolutely delicious, plentiful, and consistently excellent throughout the stay.From the accommodations to the service, the atmosphere, and the attention to detail, the entire experience was nothing short of amazing. We truly have no complaints whatsoever. This was a flawless weekend and an unforgettable celebration. Highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a perfect, well-organized, and memorable stay. Wonderful walks, scenery is breathtaking. A tranquil atmosphere. The accomodation is just gorgeous. Homely, simple yet elegant decor. The beds.. oh my goodness!! How I miss the incredible comfort of the bed ! Hairdryer, extension cord, kettle with tea)coffee makes a perfect addition. The bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean. No soap in the shower, however hand soap, shampoo and conditioner provided. The bathrobes are a huge plus! The food was plentiful, healthy, homely and so tasty. Thank you to the incredible staff who worked so hard to make sure we all had the perfect stay. Hope to be back soon.
