Such a wonderful experience at the Wicklow Escape. Beautiful surroundings, lovely modern and cosy decor, and absolutely... phenomenal food. The team work so hard on the details and we were so well fed, well watered (with some great cocktails!) and well looked after! The hot tub was a really wonderful treat. Had a really enjoyable stay here recently and would highly recommend to anyone. It definitely was a different... experience in the sense that you get well acquaintanted with the other guests, which was lovely!! Great food (I mean, incredibly tasty, and all made from locally sourced or in-house ingredients) a very decent wine list, some very extroverted staff and guests made the weekend one that was full of laughs and great conversation. It was only on the last day, while checking out, we both remarked on how we hadn't even noticed there was no TV anywhere. Nobody missed it! A true getaway in a beautiful setting.read more

DO NOT PURCHASE GIFT VOUCHERSVery disappointed with treatment from Jeanette and the owner John. Myself and my partner... were gifted with a €100 voucher from Friends. We booked our meal and when we booked our meal we emailed a copy of the voucher over to Jeanette as requested. We also brought a hard copy of the voucher with us on the night of the meal. When my partner proceed to pay with the voucher towards the rest of the bill, he was told they were unable to take the voucher at that time but the voucher would be applied retrospectively. Having contacted Jeanette nearly every 2nd day for 3 weeks she finally stated she would pay this money into our bank account (after numerous attempts to do otherwise, including asking us to hang on to the voucher and use it over the next 5 years ) we then get an email telling us there will be a delay in paying back our money as "their accountant is on holidays "Nearly 4 weeks on and we have yet to be reimbursed the value of the voucher (€100). I have never had this experience where payment is looked for upfront and and the voucher would be reimbursed retrospectively. This is something i would never accept again.***Post Owners response:Hi Lisa many thanks for acknowledging our unpleasant experience at the Wicklow Escape. I feel it's important to note however that the complimentary lunch was given for a totally separate issue that involved turning up to what we were led to believe was an indoor dining meal to it then being outdoors, we asked for the outdoor heating to be turned on, about 30 minutes after our request the waiter tried to do this however the outdoor heating would not work, we were not offered any throws or alternative to keep warm and we all (including an elderly lady) went home with a chill, this was the case for other guests also as we chatted with them about the experience before leaving****Post Wicklow Escape response*Hi Lisa, many thanks for acknowledging our unpleasant experience at the Wicklow Escape. I feel it's important to note that the complimentary lunch was for a totally separate issue. We turned up to what was meant to be an indoor dining experience only to be told that because it was a nice night it was changed to outdoors. There was three in our party including an elderly lady and none of us were dressed for the outdoors. We asked for the outdoor heating to be turned on and roughly 30 minutes after our request the waiter tried but could not get the heaters to work. We were not offered any alternative to keep warm such as throws or blankets and all three of us went home with a chill.read more

Absolutely beautiful place and as the name would suggest: a perfect escape. The hospitality is amazing, from the... welcome drink to the bespoke cocktails and great chats with Bojan, to the very generous breakfasts served by the entertaining John; all the staff are so helpful and friendly. The food is out of this world and I'd definitely recommend the wine pairings. As most reviews have mentioned, the beds are ridiculously comfortable and the rooms are snug and well-equipped. The surroundings are beautiful and you really are taking a break from the world here. Definitely book in for a massage or a hot tub under the stars as well!read more

From arrival to departure, we were both treated with such care. We travelled for a birthday surprise and their was... welcome drinks on arrival and extra added touches to make the weekend more special. The breakfast and dinner was incredible. The bed was so comfortable we had to peel ourselves off it in the mornings. The bedrooms are fully kitted out with all the little extras. The hot tub at night is so romantic and pretty. You get so much privacy throughout your stay but yet if anything is needed someone is with you in seconds. Everything is so fresh and the garden is so beautiful. My sister and I arrived at the Wicklow Escape on a sunny Friday afternoon. When we left on the Sunday it felt like we... were re-entering the real world – just what a proper retreat should feel like. Comfortable beds, hammocks and a book in the sun, a hot tub with a view of the forest, a guide to take us on a walk, a hike up to the summit of the Sugar Loaf with a posh picnic, great breakfasts – and those incredible evening meals paired with wine served by a sommalier. The OK rating is driven entirely by the price. We've recently enjoyed another 2 night stay at a country house in Co... Kerry, at less than HALF the total cost of Wicklow Escape. Obviously there are subjective and relative measures involved here, but the food at the Kerry stay was comparable, and the location/view/scenery was superior to Wicklow Escape. The servicing and replenishment of our bedroom was also superior. While I understand that differences in price can be driven by many factors, a 200% + higher cost is prohibitive.read more

Attended a friends wedding here in December. Such an exceptional escape location. Lisa and the team we're amazing the... attention to detail and touches on everything were just magic. We arrived to fairy lights, the smell of mulled wine and the bustle of the wedding guests at the cabin area. Large portions but not over indulging sizes, plenty of everything and absolutely delish (nothing but perfection) and the staff were always available to check in on everyone, topping up drinks and so friendly. The whole experience was stunning - Lisa and here team felt like friends, the Elbowroom felt like home, a memorable place to have spent a beautifully memorable day. My sister and brother-in-law had their wedding at the Elbow Room Escape last September. The bridal party stayed the... night before enjoying each other’s company and the very comfortable suites. On the day of the wedding everyone at the elbow room escape made sure it ran smoothly. The ceremony room was decorated with wild flowers from the gardens, and once the ceremony was finished the staff seemlessly changed the furniture creating the dining hall. This was done as the guests and wedding party enjoyed the gardens, took photographs and had drinks in the cabin. Everything was done without stress, platers of food taken around to guests prior dinner and in the evening we enjoyed a BBQ from the outdoor BBQ hut and picnic area. It was a fantastic escape from any hustle and bustle and a magical intimate way to celebrate the wedding.read more

Myself and my husband Daniel chose the Elbowroom Escape for our wedding reception last December and we are so delighted... that we did. We knew we wanted a small, intimate wedding with a different feel from the usual hotel venue. The Elbowroom Escape is such a beautiful setting, surrounded by forests and nature in a peaceful secluded area, but still easy for our guests to access from Dublin. From the beginning Lisa and her team made us feel so well taken cared of, they were so accommodating and always available to discuss our queries and ideas. They collaborated with us to create a day that really reflected myself and Daniel, with a relaxed and fun atmosphere that our guests really enjoyed. The three course wedding meal was really special - so many of our guests commented that it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding! The staff on the day were so friendly and efficient, everything ran smoothly with no trace of stress, meaning myself and Daniel were free to relax and let our hair down with our guests. My husband and I fell in love with the venue. Its close to Dublin and right by the foothills of the Wicklow mountains.... Its truly picturesque!! We had a beautiful Wedding day and night! Working with Lisa, Amanda and Roz was so easy, they took all the stress out of planning. It was easy to trust in their vision for the day. The hand-made furniture, including a full length mirror, were beautiful and compliment the surroundings wonderfully. The food is still something we talk about; local produce and even some veg from the gardens. The rooms were very comfortable and everyone loved the robes! A former youth hostel, this has been developed as a rustic retreat. I attended a wedding there in December. There is... car parking space to the front of the building and a sloped upward area to the right houses a small wooden seomra where drinks are served. There was one bench for sitting on and right next door a fabric gazebo had been erected again with just one bench to sit on. There was nowhere to sit and chat collectively and the main common room was the only large indoor space where the food was being served so spent several freezing hours standing outdoors waiting for the meal to be served.Bedrooms were basic but clean and warm. The food provided by the venue was OK it was interesting and not too rich. There were nice touches in the table decorations. There is a fully equipped kitchen with lots of food storage. The venue is set in woodland and on a previous visit in October I could appreciate the obvious charm of this rustic setting and in summer it must be lovely however it is weather dependent and if it had been raining or indeed snowing it would have made for a very unpleasant experience. As it was very cold and damp as one would expect in December I'd advise guests to dress warmly and layers. Also be prepared to be outdoors. It would be great to have a pot bellied stove or some other outside heating facility though I understand there is a fire pit and an outdoor hot tub. This is an ideal venue for a small family event like a birthday celebration, family reunion or a friends getaway. It is geared towards self catering though they did provide the main wedding meal. It is also geared towards a younger older audience so not suitable for very aged grandparents. As a wedding venue it was different, and has potential but there could be some additions to make it a bit more comfortable for a wider audience.read more

What makes this place unique though are its people. Thank you Amanda and Lisa for being great hosts, great company and fab Gin connoisseurs ;)
You can bet we will be back !

We returned yesterday from a wonderful weekend Escape with you in beautiful Donard. From start to finish we enjoyed... every moment. The food was delicious, the rooms so cozy, not to mention our fantastic host, Amanda, was so welcoming & genuine.
The yoga classes were the perfect level for our mixed ability, & we enjoyed each session. We both had massages from the talented Alex on Saturday afternoon, and our quick dip in the outdoor hot tub was a real treat at the end of a lovely day. We will definitely be back. Thank you Amanda.

Had the best weekend at Elbow Room Escape catchin up with a bunch of friends. Food was so delicious and accommodation... so comfortable . Amanda was tge perfect host, very in tune with our needs and when relaxation was needed after our hike, she deferred yoga by an hour to give us that time to chill a bit more. The yoga was just right too, not too hardcore but really felt it in a good way after. The hot tub and fire pit were a perfect way to chill on the Sat night and everyone really loved that. Definitely on my to-come-back-to list... whether with family, friends, as a couple or with kids - this place won't disappoint 😁😁read more

Oh my goodness...where to start? At the beginning I suppose.
Everything about The elbowroom Escape is perfect. The... beds really are 5* quality, I slept so well...and spent most of the weekend either sleeping or reading my book, all cosied up while it rained outside. Amanda is an absolute gem, so full of energy and kindness, I don't know how she keeps it going all weekend!
The food is yum, generous and easy on the belly. For our Do F*** All weekend there was plenty of goodies too, snacks we could buy and the occasional beer if we fancied. Then of course, the gin. Sweet Jesus, the gin. Such a treat and prepared with care and flourish.
I have to mention the hot tub too - heated by a wood fire that Amanda tended to all day on Saturday. Sitting in that gorgeous water, gin in hand, taking in the night sky - can't imagine anything much better than that!
We also had the pleasure of meeting Susan (masseur from heaven) and Kate who's part of the team running the show. Loveliest people on the planet. I will be back, have no doubt, though maybe a smidge less gin this time! GO...you won't regret it.read more

Fabulous location, friendly and inviting, comfortable beds, great yoga room/facilities and ideal place to get away and... switch off. However we went with a large group and i dont feel the quality and quantity of food on offer was adequate(esp breakfast this morning) Also with it being a "do fuck all" weekend, it would have been more enjoyable to have the hot tub lit earlier in the day and to enjoy it in daylight, able to admire the view (it wasnt ready til 9.30pm)read more

Thank you so much for helping to make our retreat at the Elbowroom Escape so magical.
All the retreaters had a... fantastic time. The food was tasty, fresh and healthy and the friendliness of
you and your staff were also much appreciated. We enjoyed the morning walks in the woods
and the hiking was fantastic - a good workout in the fresh air with spectacular views
and a knowledgeable and motivating guide to keep us going. Oh, the hot tub was fabulous too.A few of us went in at about 10pm and it was super relaxing and really warmed us up even though it was a chilly evening. We loved the yoga room, all the yoga props that are available and the big cushions and bean bags for relaxing were perfect for a little nap in the afternoon.read more

I escaped to create.... For all artists, writers and creative people looking for silence, solitude and serenity to get... the creative juices flowing I would highly recommend this haven. I was lucky enough to be invited as an Artist in Residence, with beautiful surrounding of forests, mountains, trails and even an ancient stone circle providing endless inspiration I worked away on ideas for my latest art project. Stunning gardens, a very cool greenhouse and, my favourite, a magical Wisteria entwined Pergola with pretty party lights leading to a boutique log cabin where I retreated to do my work on a very fine hand crafted wooden table with coffee machine simmering and an honesty hamper of delicious organic snacks and drinks on offer before dining 'al fresco' and chilling out in my luxurious bedroom which opened onto the gardens. With options of outdoor hot tub, hammock and occasional yoga class who would not be inspired. I would advise booking in now before the secret is out...Thank you all at Elbowroom Escape, for such a wonderful sanctuary, from one very happy artist !read more

Thanks again for an amazing weekend. It was above and beyond any expectations!!
A warm and friendly atmosphere was the... order of the weekend at the Elbowroom Escape.
Amanda's organisational skills left us with nothing to do but relax.
Bev's Yoga Nidra class on Friday night with its beautiful visualisations combined wth her soothing voice left the group floating all the way to a brilliant night's sleep.
The food was wholesome, nutritious and delicious. Rooms, beds and facilities are 5*+ standards.
The smell of the woodfire burning, the hot tub!! (I could have stayed there forever).
The whole vibe was amazing., and it is without hesitation I would recommend a weekend away to kickstart a change in your work life balance.

Such a magic place in the middle of beautiful nature. A calm oasis just interrupted by the birds singing, how romantic... is that! I still can't decide what I fell in love with most: the delicious food, the amazing and very caring staff that made you feel like home, the hot outdoor tub which is great fun, the yoga studio with a fire place (I'm not joking, how great is that!), or that there is just so much love and thought in every detail from the very comfy beds to the dining place! A magical place nestled in the glen of imal. Spent a wonderful weekend here....lots of thought has gone into making... what was once a hostel into a 5 star retreat centre. Lovely yoga room with a beautiful floor, there is plenty of props and mats so no need to bring anything with you.
