Press Release : Wicklow Mountain Lodge Homes Direct Provision Families this Christmas

Posted in News on 18th December 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

” Generosity in our community is alive and well” according to Lisa Wilkinson owner of The elbowroom escape in Donard, Wicklow.

The elbowroom escape has organised a group of 24 parents and children in Direct Provision to take a 3 day holiday this Christmas at The elbowroom escape. The initiative should give each family a place where they can call home for three days with their families in a comfortable and safe environment. The elbowroom escape luxury mountain lodge will offer their complete facilities for the families and have organised a packed schedule of arts and crafts fun, parent and family yoga classes and group walks around the beautiful grounds on St. Stephens Day. All money raised will go towards simple things like food, bus transport and gifts for the kids. The team are also looking for extra helping hands over the 3 days so if anyone wants to help out for a few hours it would be greatly appreciated. If you don’t know what to give, give your time. An extra pair of helping hands will go a long way.

According to Lisa “social responsibility has always been part of the framework for both The elbowroom and The elbowroom escape. For over 15 years we have worked with many organisations to make our services more accessible. This project is the start of a plan to open our beautiful mountain lodge to those forced to leave their homes only to be herded into unsuitable facilities and denied basic rights to work and have a family life. With this initiative we hope to start a long-term project to give some reprieve to groups of traumatised adults and children facing serious mental health issues, by providing time for family life, being in nature and cooking and sharing food dear to their own culture. Hopefully, it will give these families a memorable Christmas in the beautiful hills of Wicklow.

The local community has already donated over a €1000, baby clothes and sanitary items and The elbowroom suppliers have donated transportation and food.
If you have been inspired by this piece The elbowroom escape are still looking for donations right up to Christmas Eve. They have set up a GoFundMe page that is currently taking donations to fund the initiative. They are also looking for volunteers to help host children’s activities over the 3-day event.
